ABOUT US

HISTORY

BeautyUnited started as a grassroots effort in April 2020 in response to the impact of the health crisis spurred by the COVID-19 pandemic. We mobilized quickly to significantly amplify efforts to raise financial resources to help frontline responders through two initiatives:

  1. #WeStandUnited call-to-action video

  2. Shop BeautyUnited Day

BeautyUnited has to date helped to raise over $8.2 million for the Frontline Responders Fund.

As the health crisis developed into an economic crisis and then a crisis of racial justice, the BeautyUnited coalition formalized as an organization committed to activating our networks of celebrity and influence to raise awareness on intersectional fronts. On July 1, 2020 we officially launched the BeautyUnited Mentorship program to address the growing inequality around access to funding and opportunity for Black and Indigenous founders within the Beauty and Wellness space. The first Mentor Program class provided 52 Black and Indigenous Beauty leaders with 312 hours of mentorship, 11 hours of education curriculum, and supporting documents on everything from new business financing to setting a meeting agenda.

As we looked to expand our impact, and seeing the impact of other organizations dedicated to diversity, equity, and culture, we realized that BeautyUnited needed to be a formalized organization in order to be focused on its mission. We joined the nonprofit Tides Center as a project on May 16, 2021 and hired our first employee. As we work to establish the organization’s next Mentor Program launch, we will be establishing ways to offer additional education, community, and resources to the people we serve.
